Welcome, Tegan. I really look forward to helping you not only prepare for your restricted driving test but to help you to become a safe and confident driver.
Lesson #2 27.01.23 9.30 am until 2 pm
Who would have known Tegan that a large weather event was coming in? I think you did a very good job of driving through pretty wet conditions at this time of the day and I was impressed at how you managed several tricky situations. I would really emphasize the importance of head checks now in your driving practice and next time I wold like to focus more on parallel parking and three-point turns so you have them confidently set up when asked to do so. Keep practicing your hazard identification in your head as you drive so you get used to how to see situations ahead to be able to react well to them as you prepare to sit your restricted test.
Lesson #1 07.12.22
Tegan, great to meet you! It was good to be able to assess where you are in your driving journey, and you’ve picked up some really good driving styles from mum and dad. What I’m now aiming to do as we now move forward is teaching you the finer skills, of not only passing your restricted test but also being a more defensive driver – I would suggest you practice the following: I want you to look at your speed control, so that you can really go down low as you approach roundabouts, thinking of every time you come to an intersection now, whether a roundabout, or traffic lights think of the triangle as a give way. That’s where you need to start assessing so that if you really time it right you won’t necessarily need to stop. Think about your acceleration onto a roundabout or indeed slowing down until you get through the corner and then speeding up when it’s safe. Try practicing doing those roundabouts that we did today with mum and dad, and I also want you to really focus on your head checks. Every time you pull out, move off, turn, merge… anything you do – everything requires mirrors first then that simple head check. Focus on your steering whilst you’re doing that. And I look forward to meeting you again.
Developing a training plan with you is where we begin once you have your theory learner test behind you.
Your training plan will be a structured and logical sequence of progressive lesson plans with the provision for the review of your progress as we go.
Each lesson plan will have its own TRAINING OBJECTIVE which will outline what you will achieve as a result of the session along with the STANDARD to which you need to perform the task and the conditions under which the performance will be assessed along with the RESOURCES that will need to be supplied.
How we deliver our knowledge to you is through three main methods
Controlled Practice – This is where your tutor will carry out the manoeuvre with a full verbal description as we go a couple of times so you have a chance to observe and feel comfortable trying it yourself.
Prompted Practice – Once you are comfortable, you can then try the manoeuvre whilst your tutor prompts you with a word here and there as a reminder as you concentrate on carrying out your manoeuvre
Transferred Responsibility – Yay – this is the bit you get to do it yourself and practice.
This is a record of your progress and must be kept by us on your behalf for 12 months and when added to your lesson plans forms the overall training plan.
