Welcome, Margaret. I really look forward to helping you not only prepare for your restricted driving test but to help you to become a safe and confident driver.
Lesson #1 – Monday 27th Feb 4pm-5:30
Lovely to meet you Margaret! You’re definitely on your way to being prepared to comfortably sit your restricted.
What I want you to really focus on from here on in is your overall head checks, and the push and pull steering method, rather than trying to move your hands around the wheel, potentially locking up. When your hand moves past the “midnight hour” that’s kind of locking your hands up. So think of the push and pull, think of keeping your hands where they have the ability to use your indicators or your windscreen wipers really easily. And also think about coming right down as you come to the junctions – from the triangle, so you can either speed up or stop. As soon as you speed up to cross a junction, whether on a roundabout or whether you’re pulling out to get away from danger, remove your accelerator once you’re clear so you have time to steer, check your head check over your left shoulder, and then once your steering is straight to then begin to ease on up on the acceleration.
Great driving, what I want you to focus on is your parallel parking, and next time we meet we’ll start to get more confident on an actual test route.
Developing a training plan with you is where we begin once you have your theory learner test behind you.
Your training plan will be a structured and logical sequence of progressive lesson plans with the provision for the review of your progress as we go.
Each lesson plan will have its own TRAINING OBJECTIVE which will outline what you will achieve as a result of the session along with the STANDARD to which you need to perform the task and the conditions under which the performance will be assessed along with the RESOURCES that will need to be supplied.
How we deliver our knowledge to you is through three main methods
Controlled Practice – This is where your tutor will carry out the manoeuvre with a full verbal description as we go a couple of times so you have a chance to observe and feel comfortable trying it yourself.
Prompted Practice – Once you are comfortable, you can then try the manoeuvre whilst your tutor prompts you with a word here and there as a reminder as you concentrate on carrying out your manoeuvre
Transferred Responsibility – Yay – this is the bit you get to do it yourself and practice.
This is a record of your progress and must be kept by us on your behalf for 12 months and when added to your lesson plans forms the overall training plan.
