Jack - This page is your training plan. Please refer to it every week as we move towards you being fully prepared to undertake your restricted driving test.
Lesson 6
Jack – some solid manual open road driving this evening as well as some night driving experience. You have learned to steer well in a manual and a large vehuicle at that as you navigated the rural twisting roads from Waitakere to Muriwai. Feedback from me is that you need to practice your manaul hill starts especially on the handbrake with the smooth transisiton from handbrake releasing to your accelarator pushing you away safely. Look forward to meeting up again soon.
Jack you are a confident and safe young driver and I have been so impressed to date with how you have handled your lessons in your automatic as well as the time we have gone out in one of our manaul vehicles.
For future lessons, I would now like to put all we have learned together into the bigger picture and look at pre test assessments to ensure you are well prepared for your restricted driving test as well as cover some of the last remaining areas of what you need to know.
You need to make a decision as whether you carry out the remaining lessons in your own automatic vehicle as you have four lessons left as well as the two off road lessons we normally combine into a morning.
Look forward to meeting again.

Introduction :
Licence check is complete and today we are going to be doing some town driving.
While highway driving occupies a large part of some drivers’ time, the majority of drivers spend most of their time driving in towns or cities. Restricted manoeuvrability, high traffic volumes and a much wider range of potential hazards present a real challenge for drivers, especially new ones, and to manage these requires patience, skill and knowledge. All drivers share basic obligations in this environment and a responsible and courteous attitude must be applied. Trainees need to quickly develop the ability to anticipate and predict the movements of other road users and to apply the hazard action plan and the system of vehicle control. This lesson has been broken into segments that reflect the six driving conditions.
Revision from our last meeting
Jack when I arrive on Wednesday 9th March, please be ready to get stuck right into a pre vehicle inspection as if I was your testing office asking you to quickly point things out to me. We will also conduct a cabin drill so you can show me where your main controls are. I will also want to see you adjust your mirrors and seat if required to show the testing officer you are thinking about your driving position.
From there we will depart for Onehunga through the tunnel as we did on your last lesson as I want to observe the lane position ( did you practice your lane position and not pulling slightly to the right?) I want to also run that same route onto the motorway and exit off the motorway observing all the things we covered in the last lesson.
We will then move onto town driving with a route around the small but busy town of Onehunga, navigating a narrow main street with various crossings, lights, pedestrians and street signs to navigate.
Here are your lessons plans for today that we will cover in detail. Please check in to see recorded feedback here after you have completed your lesson.

Revision from our last meeting
We looked at a pre-drive inspection of outside and inside of the vehicle which you carried out efficiently. Well done.
We also went over road signs we discussed from our previous lesson ad you have done so well in retaining a lot of information Jack.
Here are the lesson plans we will cover today.

Introduction :
Licence check complete and today we are going to be doing –
Pre-drive vehicle checks both external and internal, Signals, Moving off (straight), Stopping, Directional control, Moving of (at an angle), Head checks, Over shoulder checks, parallel parking, and 3 point turn practice.
We will conduct todays’ session at…
The reason for today’s session is…
To look at vehicle inspection internal and external, overall mirror checks, lane position, and gap selection whilst we carry out certain maneuvers such as intersection movements, reversing parallel parking.
Revision requested from Jack
Jack, please take a look at your road code and re-familiarise yourself with the road signage you might encounter on your driving routes such as speed signs and railway crossings.
Feedback for lesson 1
Jack, I am so impressed with your first session with me this afternoon. Great lane position, you showed courtesy when driving to other road users. You have a great understanding of road signs and remember the colouring as to what that means, red, yellow, orange and blue etc.
Your over the shoulder checks are coming along nicely and I have no doubt you are well on your way to becoming a very efficient and safe driver.
If you can practice parallel parking and your there point turns. Please refer above to the lesson plans above to remind you of the conditions you need to meet. Remember to slow down for a giveaway but proceed if you feel there is plenty of time and check to your right and left when leaving or entering an intersection to ensure the situation remains as it was when you last looked.
Other than that – well done and very much look forward to progressing now to the next step.

Developing a training plan with you Jack is where we begin once you have your theory learner test behind you.
Your training plan will be a structured and logical sequence of progressive lesson plans with the provision for the review of your progress as we go.
Each lesson plan will have its own TRAINING OBJECTIVE which will outline what you will achieve as a result of the session along with the STANDARD to which you need to perform the task and the conditions under which the performance will be assessed along with the RESOURCES that will need to be supplied.
How we deliver our knowledge to you is through three main methods
Controlled Practice – This is where your tutor will carry out the manoeuvre with a full verbal description as we go a couple of times so you have a chance to observe and feel comfortable trying it yourself.
Prompted Practice – Once you are comfortable, you can then try the manoeuvre whilst your tutor prompts you with a word here and there as a reminder as you concentrate on carrying out your manoeuvre
Transferred Responsibility – Yay – this is the bit you get to do it yourself and practice.
This is a record of your progress and must be kept by us on your behalf for 12 months and when added to your lesson plans forms the overall training plan.
