Feedback
Great lesson Anastasia as you navigated some very busy routes today driving roundabouts, motorway routes, and having to avoid some crazy drivers. You have learned today about holding back on your speed so that you can take more control of your manouvres needed along with the importance of why the timing of a head check is vital before changing a land position.
Please practice going down gears as you approach an intersection so that if you are giving way, you can proceed in 2nd gear instead of changing into 1st and making it more difficult. Watch for your speed and not exceed the limits. Practice on motorway replicating our route would be a good idea. Here is the route…

A good effort as this is the first time you have mastered a motorway run. Practice steering straight as you carry out a lane position. More manual work o roundabouts is required so please practice navigating onto and out from a roundabout.

Introduction :
We will conduct todays’ session around…through Henderson over to Glen Eden and then into Titirangi.
The reason for today’s session is…To feel the bite between clutch and accelerator pedal practicing pulling away, hill starts, and manoeuvres that require some clutch and accelerator manipulation. This is so you can relax when pulling away in your own vehicle without feeling the “bunny hop” sensation or stalling the vehicle.

Revision from our last meeting
It was good to see you applying the over-the-shoulder move, well done. We also revised a pre-vehicle inspection and you were able to competently tell me where everything was n your car both under the bonnet and inside the cabin. Again well done as this will be required of you when you attend your test date.
Performance Objective – To practice the bite of the clutch and accelerator as you navigate pulling away on a hill.
Standard – In a motor vehicle ( Mini )
Conditions – In daylight, with light traffic.

I felt by the end of this lesson you were much more confident in mixing the right amount of clutch and accelator to enable a smooth pull away from intersections or our hill starts.
In our next lesson, I would recommend we travel to the areas you will actually sit your test in, and let’s look at 3 point turns and parallel parking.

Revision from our last meeting
This is our first meeting so we will just instead cover what you have done in any previous lessons you may have had or indeed any driving practice you have completed to date.
Performance Objective – To practice the handling of a manual gear shift and to learn how to control the vehicle with very little power as we navigate smaller, quiet streets
Standard – In a motor vehicle ( LandRover) with a higher seating position
Conditions – In daylight, with little traffic.

Fantastic to meet you. I was really impressed with your first lesson with me. You managed to navigate the first car park very well showing controls as you steered around as well as showing good foot control on the pedals to master clutch and accelerator in a much bigger car.
Some points for further consideration as you develop up your driving is to consider jumping out of the car to take a look behind you if reversing. There is no shame is taking a look outside of your vehicle to enable a better judgment. Start thinking about the over-shoulder checks and how you can do them that allows you to take in what may be in your blind spot. At the same time, practice keeping your steering steady whilst you take that split second to absorb over your shoulder so you can ask your hands to carry out any avoidance issues if you see something such as a hidden cyclist.
Remember to consider your gear change before you require all your energy to maneuver such as a roundabout, hill, change of lane to allow you to have dealt with the engine before you need to move the wheel, indicate and all the other little tasks you need to carry out.
I would imagine it would be good to consider a lesson in your own car at our next meeting so I can avoid having you get too used to one vehicle. I would imagine on the next lesson we can now commence the teachings required for the restricted test and therefore we can start lesson plans whilst at the same time allowing for plenty of manual practice. At some stage in the future I also think we should carry out a lesson in one of our automatic vehicles so you can also feel the difference whilst applying the same road and riving technique.
I hope you get some practice in. Maybe consider trying the same route we carried out and I look forward to meeting you again soon.

Developing a training plan with you Anastasia is where we begin once you have your theory learner test behind you.
Your training plan will be a structured and logical sequence of progressive lesson plans with the provision for the review of your progress as we go to build upon the driving practice you have already gained.
Each lesson plan will have its own TRAINING OBJECTIVE which will outline what you will achieve as a result of the session along with the STANDARD to which you need to perform the task and the conditions under which the performance will be assessed along with the RESOURCES that will need to be supplied.
How we deliver our knowledge to you is through three main methods
Controlled Practice – This is where your tutor will carry out the manoeuvre with a full verbal description as we go a couple of times so you have a chance to observe and feel comfortable trying it yourself.
Prompted Practice – Once you are comfortable, you can then try the manoeuvre whilst your tutor prompts you with a word here and there as a reminder as you concentrate on carrying out your manoeuvre
Transferred Responsibility – Yay – this is the bit you get to do it yourself and practice.
The following behaviors will not be tolerated by either the tutor or the student or any staff member of ALL TERRAIN DRIVING ACADEMY
